SXR 339 Summer School Photo Notes Strath Fionan Day 1 =================== Locality 1 47 Remnats of sedimentary structures Localities 2-4 No photos Locality 5 51-52 Mica lineations with garnets (some possible strain shadow observed) and quartz veins which are surface expressions of folding (see schematic in workbook) Locality 6 49-50 Multiple deformation. Folds have embedded foliation (i.e. two stages of deformation) but some foliation also appears to cut across earlier deformation. Quartz migrated to short limbs of folds in response to deformation in small folds. Locality 7 59 Dramatic fold with broken limb (Stephen Blake for scale) Thickening in the fold indicates flattening has taken place. Locality 8 No photos Locality 9 48 Kyanite crystals Strath Fionan Day 2 - Quarry ============================ 61-62 Block showing near verical foliation planes (in front aspect) and lineations (crests of small folds) in right face indicating at least two episodes of deformation. 63 Differential weathering allowed the plunge of this fold to be estimated (158/32) to be consistent with the rock in 61/62 64 mica/feldspar foliation and calcite rich expression of folds (similar to those seen at location 5 (on day 1)
